The award was given for a device called the Trailer Tail which helps with the airflow on any tractor trailer. The award is also the highest environmental honor in the state of California as well. The governor of California named Edmund Brown helped to present the GEELA to the company as the award focuses on recognizing a particular business that helps with the overall reduction of gas emissions and establishing economic benefits.
The entrepreneur Andrew Smith was the original founder of AT Dynamics and the new Trailer Tail innovation was launched in 2008. AT Dynamics reports that thousands of the Trailer Tail were ordered by companies in the year 2011 and that nearly 50,000 trailers will be equipped with the aerodynamic fairing by the year 2014.
AT Dynamics also proclaims that the freight industry is going to benefit substantially as 20 billion dollars is going to be saved in fuel costs within the next decade. The industry is going to benefit as the new innovation is going to cut back on the use of fuel itself.
