The region of Hickory Lenoir, North Carolina is rated as one of the ideal locations for economic development in the United States.

The area of Hickory Lenoir is known as a metropolitan region which is known to have high populations such as 200,000 and 1 million people.

The site selection rated Hickory Lenoir as number 9 for having a high population for a metropolitan area. Nearly 23 economic development projects were announced for the Hickory Lenoir region in the state of North Carolina.

The entire state of North Carolina had approximately 310 economic development projects so the region of Hickory took a large percentage of the total projects.

Scott Millar who is a President of the Economic Development Corporation in Catawba County elaborates on how the community is proud of the ranking. President Millar also states that there is a whole lot of work ahead in the future as the Corporation aims to ultimately reduce the unemployment rate and increase the amount of jobs in the region of Hickory Lenoir. An Executive Director of the Commission in Caldwell County states that the ranking is due to the brand new opportunities and the collaboration from the MSA. The Executive Director also looks forward to the future as new projects are proposed in the region.

Even though the region of Hickory Lenoir is known for being one of the ideal places for economic development, the unemployment rate is one of the highest at 11.7 percent. The area of Hickory Lenoir was also ranked as one of the worst places to actually find employment in the United States. One can even say that the focus on economic development was necessary in order to increase the amount of jobs and decrease the unemployment rate.

Overall, more economic development projects need to be implemented and created across the United States.
